Fatty Liver – Causes, Signs, And Prevention


According to health experts, fatty liver disease can occur when there is more than 5% fat in the liver.

Most patients have no signs or symptoms and it does not cause serious health problems. In some cases, however, this disease can lead to liver damage, the good news is that fatty liver disease can usually be eradicated or reversed by making lifestyle changes.

This disease is also known as fatty liver disease. When liver disease occurs in an alcoholic person, it is called alcoholic liver disease (AFLD) and is known as nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) when present in a nonalcoholic person.

Stomach doctors sometimes call fatty liver disease a silent disease. This is because the patient may not have any signs or symptoms, even as the problem progresses. When this silent disease occurs, a person may experience pain or discomfort in the upper right side of the stomach, which is the area between the hips and the chest.

Signs of fatty liver

In many cases, patients with liver disease have no noticeable symptoms. But you may feel fatigued, discomfort, pain in the upper right part of the stomach. Some people with this liver disease develop complications, such as scarring or liver fibrosis. The first symptoms may include:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Weightloss
  • Feeling sick
  • Vomiting
  • Tired
  • Nosebleeds
  • Abdominal pain
  • Abdominal swelling
  • Confusion
  • Skin itch
  • Tired

Causes of fatty liver disease

Fatty liver disease occurs when your body produces excess fat or does not metabolize fat efficiently. The increased fat is stored in the liver cells,

There are a variety of things that cause this fat accumulation. For example, alcohol addiction can cause alcoholic liver disease. This is the initial stage of alcohol-related liver disease. In people who don't drink too much alcohol, the cause of the fatty liver disease is less clear. Some of the following factors may play a role:

  • High blood sugar level
  • Obesity
  • High levels of fat in the blood.
  • Insulin resistance
